POLICE have urged the public to be vigilant after cooking oil was stolen from a care home in the north east.
Two men, dressed with false uniforms and posing as waste collection workers, tricked a care home on and stole an undefined amount of cooking oil.
The incident took place on Tuesday, December 17.
There is demand for used waste oil collected from business as renewable diesel made from used cooking oil results in fewer greenhouse gas emissions than those made from new vegetable oils.
It can also be used as heating oil in some cases.
The suspects left the in a 64-registration silver Ford Transit.
Constable Lock from the Stonehaven Community Policing Team said: “I would urge restaurants, hotels and fast-food outlet owners to be particularly vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the Police via 101.
“Used cooking oils are being stolen across the country and being taken south to be processed. If you have any doubts, call the company that normally makes your used oil collections to verify identities.
“Thieves are on occasion presenting false identification.”
