Thierry Henry has revealed whether Arsenal should have gone the extra mile to snatch Mykhailo Mudryk from Chelsea. The 22-year-old was heavily linked with a move to the Gunners at the start of last month, only for the Blues to hijack a deal at the eleventh hour.
Talks between the north Londoners and Shakhtar Donetsk progressed well to begin with before Edu eventually tabled a bid of €70million (£62million), plus €30million (£26million) worth of add-ons. Arsenal stayed in contact with the Ukrainian side and there was even confidence that they were going to win the race for Mudryk's signature.
But, then Chelsea matched the Gunners' bid which was revealed to be a better structured offer. Just hours later, Mudryk put pen to paper on an eight-and-a-half year deal at Stamford Bridge.

After missing out on the Ukraine international, Edu perused a move for Leandro Trossard instead. But, after the Belgium international struggled to impress off the bench against Manchester City, Henry and Jamie Carragher have pondered whether Arsenal should've gone the extra mile to outdo Chelsea.
Speaking on CBS Sports, the former Gunners striker said: "Arsenal, we don’t have the depth of Man City, that is for sure."
To which Carragher replied: "Do you think they made a mistake not spending more money in January?"
Henry answered: "Who? They go about their business a certain way. So I don’t think they buy a player for the sake of buying one. Maybe they were targeting one they couldn’t get. They go with what they can target. They went and got Jorginho.
"I don’t think they wanted Jorginho right from the start. It happens. I still think we're short but they don't just go and get players for the sake of it."
The former Liverpool defender added: "Mudryk was the one they wanted, it was just that they didn’t offer him enough money. Do you think the board should have backed him? I don't see Arsenal being in this position next season, five or six points clear at halfway."
Henry said: "That was a lot of money to buy Mudryk for that. Was he going to have an impact straight away on that team? They went for Trossard that knows the league, been there a long time, can adapt quicker and better. I wish we had more points, the Brentford game was massive."
