Thierry Henry delivers honest five-word response to bold Tottenham Champions League prediction

Thierry Henry has given a five-word response to Clint Dempsey tipping Tottenham Hotspur as dark horses to win the Champions League this season. Antonio Conte's side are in Group D with Europa League champions Eintracht Frankfurt, Marseille and Sporting.

The north London side kickstarts their campaign against the French giants as they look to recapture the rich vein of form which guided the club to the final in Madrid three years ago. And, with Spurs not considered serious candidates to lift the trophy this season, they've been backed to have an outside chance.

Speaking on CBS Sports, an American television network which broadcasts Champions League coverage, Henry, Dempsey and Jamie Carragher were asked who they think will win the competition this term. The former Arsenal forward kickstarted the discussion by picking out Manchester City.

The 45-year-old insisted that Pep Guardiola's side are under growing pressure to perform following the signing of Erling Haaland. Henry said: "I think it's about time they win it and, again, I'm going to talk about Pep.

"I want him to validate what he's doing at City - I'm repeating myself every year. But, having Haaland, I think for me, it makes it even more pressure to perform."

Dempsey was then asked to comment on naming Spurs as his dark horse and prospective winner of the Champions League. The former Tottenham forward said: "I'll pick a dark horse. I'm not biased at all, but I think maybe Tottenham."

Henry and Carragher stopped the former United States international in his tracks and burst out laughing. The Frenchman shouted: "What?!"

Dempsey added: "You know, Conte is a winner. Maybe not necessarily in - you know, having a great record in the Champions League, but hey, I think it's them."

Unpleased by what he had just heard, Henry responded: "Not that, not that."

Dempsey finished and said: "Hey, they're looking like they're going from strength to strength - done well in the transfer window."

Then refusing to look at the American, in jest, of course, Henry turned away from Dempsey and said: "I'm done."

Dempsey will be hoping Spurs kickstart the campaign with a win over Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille this evening. Meanwhile, Henry will be watching Arsenal on Thursday night in the Europa League against Swiss Super League champions Zurich.
