Thierry Henry and Patrice Evra disagree over Erik ten Hag's treatment of Cristiano Ronaldo

Thierry Henry and Patrice Evra are in disagreement over Erik ten Hag's treatment of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Arsenal legend Henry believes the Manchester United boss is right to be leaving the five-time Ballon d'Or winner out of his first team in the Premier League as he's "not doing what he used to".

But former Man United left-back Evra is of the impression that Ronaldo should be starting for the Red Devils and that if Ten Hag truly respected the Portugal international - as he recently claimed in the press - then he'd ensure he's a regular part of his starting XI.

Ronaldo has started only one Premier League game so far this season, Man United's 4-0 defeat by Brentford, but has been used sparingly from the bench by Ten Hag.

He recently scored his first league goal of the season against Everton but was left out of United's clash with Tottenham this Wednesday, sparking a debate on Amazon Video.

Henry explained why he agreed with Ten Hag's decision, saying: "It is not an easy one, but for the boss, he is here for the team, not Cristiano Ronaldo. Cristiano is part of the team and you need to find that solution.

"At times, he has to play without him and what's difficult is when people talk about him.

"He will talk about what he has done in the game and not many people can sit at his table who have achieved what he has, but it is about what he is currently doing and what he is doing is not what he used to."

Evra disagreed, explaining: "I would have to start him.

"One interview from Ten Hag after the game against Manchester City and why he didn't bring him on, was because he respected his character. If he respected his character, he would surely have to play him and play him every time."

Marcus Rashford, who has netted three times in the Premier League so far this campaign, was given the nod over Ronaldo for the visit of Spurs.

The Englishman starts up top alongside Jadon Sancho and summer signing from Ajax Antony.
