Thief caught red-handed in Nottinghamshire pawn shop

A thief was caught red-handed by police at a pawn shop after walking in with a stolen sat nav. Police were called at around 9.45am on March 24 to a car break-in in High Oakham Road, Mansfield.

A thief had stolen a camera and lenses, as well as a sat nav and dash-camera, from a student who had parked at her boyfriend’s home. Investigating officers later attended a pawn shop on March 29 - before Lewis Langley walked in with a sat nav for sale.

Thirty-two-year-old Langley was arrested with the sat nav seized and identified as the one taken during the raid on the car. Langley, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to receiving stolen goods and was jailed for 30 weeks when he appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (March 30).

Sergeant Alice Bartle, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This was a fantastic bit of work by the neighbourhood team. I’m really pleased Langley has been put behind bars.

“This part of Mansfield has recently seen a spate of thefts from motor vehicles and I hope this provides reassurance to residents that we take reports seriously and work hard to catch offenders, recover stolen items and bring offenders to justice.”
