Thief caught on CCTV trying to break into cars at Scots showroom as police launch probe

Police are investigating CCTV footage that appears to show a would-be thief trying to break into vehicles at a Scots car lot.

Central Scotland Car Sales' on-site cameras picked up a man wandering through its array of cars shortly after 3am on Saturday.

He appears to try doors as he embarks on his late night stroll among the motors - all captured in high detail by the security system.

CSCS says the man, wearing a light and navy-coloured jacket with orange trim, was not able to break into any of their wheels - but may have been more successful at a neighbouring business.

In a post on social media, the Grangemouth business said: "This morning at 3:05am we had a little visit from this man … Does anyone know this guy?

"He didn’t manage to get in to any of our vehicles or buildings, but did manage to get into one of the neighbouring business' vehicles.

"Police collected all CCTV evidence this morning and are working on local CCTV footage also."

The firm says it has shared the footage in a bid to identify the chancer - and to protect the local community.

It added: "More concerning for us are local residents and their homes.

"With so many elderly people living close by is he going around trying their doors? We need to get this guy off the streets!

"He is wearing very distinctive clothing and presumably local to the area."

Police have confirmed they are looking into the attempted break-ins but are yet to make an arrest.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 6.30am on Saturday, 16 April, 2022, officers received report of a man attempted to break-in to vehicles at Newhouse Business Park in Grangemouth.

"Enquiries into the incident are ongoing.”
