Thick smoke spotted near Ramsbottom after 'BBQ gone wrong'

Thick smoke was spotted near Ramsbottom yesterday evening, after eyewitnesses reported a 'BBQ gone wrong'. Fire crews rushed to York Avenue in Helmshore at around 6pm on Saturday (April 30).

The blaze, which was believed to have started in an outbuilding, sent a thick plume of black smoke into the sky. The fire service said two fire engines from Rawtenstall attended, LancsLive reports.

Eyewitnesses said they had been told it was a "BBQ gone wrong". However, the Lancashire Fire & Rescue Service has not confirmed the cause of the fire.

A statement from the service said the fire started in an outbuilding before spreading. A spokesperson added: "The incident involved an outbuilding and spread to a domestic property. Firefighters used one hose reel, two triple extension ladders, two thermal imaging cameras, a positive pressure ventilation unit, and small tools to extinguish the fire."

No injuries were reported. Crews remained at the scene for approximately an hour, the fire service said.
