Early frost and freezing fog have caused travel disruption across London, with commuters waking to cancelled flights and ferry services, and chaos on the roads.
Twenty-three departing and arriving flights were cancelled at London City Airport on Tuesday morning, including flights bound for Amsterdam and Florence.
Dozens have been delayed, including a flight to Geneva, and arriving flights from Frankfurt and Glasgow.
The airport is hopeful the fog will lift from mid to late morning but knock on delays will be likely, and passengers should check with their airline before they travel, a spokesperson told the Standard.
There is no service on the Woolwich ferry on Tuesday morning “due to poor visibility”, Transport for London (TfL) said. Customers have been asked to use another river crossing.
Meanwhile traffic was at a standstill on the A406 North Circular at Upper Edmonton between the Fore Street Tunnel and the A10 because of a collision.
A man in his 30s was freed from an overturned car at Angel Road uninjured. The car has been recovered and there are no arrests, Metropolitan Police said.
Planes were being “de-iced” at Gatwick Airport for safety but the airport said there were no significant weather issues affecting flights.
Passengers travelling to the airport were being warned to make sure windows are ice free.
Heathrow Airport said there were foggy conditions but flights were arriving and departing as planned, while Stansted Airport said there were some delays due to fog but no cancellations.
The Met Service has warned that frost and fog may be slow to clear through Tuesday morning as temperatures dipped as low as -4C overnight.
The foggy morning however will make way for a dry day, with lengthy sunny spells and a maximum temperature of 8C.
Londoners can expect more frost and fog on Wednesday morning which will once again be slow to clear.
