Thibaut Courtois sends 'unlucky' message to Liverpool ahead of Champions League final

Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has offered a prediction on how he thinks the Champions League final against Liverpool will play out.

The Reds take on the Spanish giants in the final of the European Cup in Paris on Saturday night. Liverpool will be going for their seventh title while Real Madrid are searching for a record 14th triumph in the competition.

Liverpool saw off Villarreal in their semi-final, while Real Madrid beat Manchester City to set up a final against the Reds. It will be a repeat of the 2018 final in Kyiv, which Liverpool lost 3-1 to the La Liga club.

Looking ahead to the final, Courtois has praised Liverpool for the two trophies that they have in their possession this season with the FA Cup and Carabao Cup. The former Chelsea stopper went on to give a hint as to how he expects the match to pan out.

“In each of the ties we lost a game and won a game, we know against Liverpool anything is possible,” Courtois told BT Sport.

“They’re a great team, they’ve shown it this season in the Premier League they came second - a bit unlucky because they had a great season and won the League Cup and the FA Cup.

“They’re a great team with a lot of good players. It'll be an intense final, two teams who like to have possession of the ball and like to play open, a bit like the home game against Man City which finished 4-3.”
