Thibaut Courtois has warned Liverpool he has no intention of losing a second Champions League final, having been a member of the Atletico Madrid side that lost to Real Madrid in 2014.
The Belgian, who signed for Real Madrid in the summer of 2018 following the La Liga giants’ victory over Liverpool, has never won the European Cup during his career with Saturday’s clash at the Stade de France only his second final appearance in the tournament.
When the goalkeeper lost to Carlo Ancelotti’s side in 2014, it was to mark a spell of four Champions League victories in five years for the Spaniards, culminating in their victory over Jurgen Klopp ’s men in 2018. Meanwhile, they haven’t lost a European Cup final since their loss to Liverpool, in Paris, back in 1981.

And while Courtois knows how the Reds will have felt that night in Kiev, he no intention of ending up on the losing side in Paris as he sent a reminder to Liverpool of Madrid’s record in European Cup finals.
“They played a final against Real Madrid in 2018,” the former Chelsea man said. “It's different for me. We know when Real Madrid play in finals, they win them. Now I'm on the right side of that.”
Meanwhile, Marcelo revealed his pride at lining up against the likes of Alisson, Fabinho and Roberto Firmino in Saturday’s Champions League final.
The defender is one of five Brazil internationals at the Bernabeu, along with Eder Militao, Casemiro, Vincius Junior and Rodrygo.
And with the quintet set to face off against three of their compatriots, the Real Madrid captain as proud to see so many of his international colleagues involved in this year’s final.
“Having Brazilians in a Champions League final is a source of pride for our country,” he said. “The more Brazilians that play in this competition, the happier I am. I hope Brazil will enjoy see the Brazilian players and a game I hope will be fantastic.”
