It is a testament to the brilliance of Thiago Silva that he has quickly become a fan favourite. The Brazillian has done nearly all of his talking on the pitch, his superb defensive acumen elevating the Blues to new heights and improving those around him.
His departure from PSG in the summer of 2020 was framed as the Ligue 1 giants moving on from a veteran and prioritising younger players for their future. But the 'Benjamin Button of football', as Thomas Tuchel labelled him in January, has rewritten the rulebook and found the fountain of youth in west London.
Speaking ahead of Wednesday night's Champions League clash with Real Madrid at Stamford Bridge, Silva was asked about the exploits of his former club and couldn't resist a slight dig. Talking with French publication L'Equipe, Silva reflected on PSG's embarrassing exit to Real Madrid in the last 16 second leg. "It's an incredible, unimaginable elimination for us who are PSG supporters. Every year it's the same thing, I think there are things to watch and improve. Even if PSG has a lot of money, that's not what wins titles."
