Thiago Scuro Will NOT Replace Edu As Arsenal's Sporting Director

Thiago Scuro is no longer being considered for Arsenal’s sporting director role, according to the latest reports.

The Premier League title-chasers are on the hunt to find a suitable replacement for Edu. At the start of November, the former Gunner confirmed he would be leaving his role at the Emirates in a shock move.

Since then, a whole host of candidates have been identified but Mikel Arteta’s side appears no closer to filling the void. Their task will continue as Scuro has been ruled out of the running.

Earlier this week, Luis Campos was linked with the role. The Portuguese mastermind is most known for unearthing Kylian Mbappe.

However, it’s unclear whether he will be interested in the vacancy. Currently, he is employed as PSG’s ‘talent spotter.’ Something of which the north Londoners desperately need to continue their recent resurgence.

Who Is Thiago Scuro?

Thiago Scuro is the current CEO of Ligue 1 side Monaco. The 43-year-old has held his position since the summer of 2023. He is widely credited with helping the Red and Whites return to the UEFA Champions League.

Scuro has previously held similar roles in his native Brazil. He was also the team manager at Cruzeiro for over a year, spending time in the role across 2015 and 2016.

Now, it appears that Scuro has set his sights on staying with the Ligue 1 side for the long-term. Having never worked in the UK, Arsenal won’t be pursuing his services.

The Gunners would want a candidate that can speak English – something which Scuro does not. Interestingly, Scuro does have a small bit of history with the north Londoners.

He was part of the transfer negotiations that brought Folarin Balogun to the Stade Louis II in the summer of 2023. Additionally, Scuro’s was active in the transfer of Mohammed Salisu from Southampton in the same window.
