Thiago Alcantara travels as Liverpool handed huge double injury boost for Champions League final

Thiago Alcantara and Fabinho have travelled with the Liverpool squad as they set off to Paris this afternoon. Jurgen Klopp and his Liverpool charges boarded a plane at John Lennon Airport bound for the French capital, as their Champions League showdown with Real Madrid awaits on Saturday evening.

Thiago was forced off at half-time of Sunday's 3-1 win over Wolves with questions raised around his status for the final.

In a press conference on Wednesday, Klopp gave a positive update, saying: “I met him inside, [there's] a good chance [Thiago] will be training this afternoon, he did some stuff this morning. It was not planned he will be doing this session with the players and in the moment it looks like he can be part of training tomorrow.

"That would be pretty helpful, obviously. We go from there. It's surprisingly good. After the game I was not positive about it but we got news that night already that it doesn't look that bad. We will see. I can imagine... now three days before a game, he cannot train but we just have to make sure we do the right thing in the right moment and we will try.”

Fabinho was also a concern, given he has been recovering from a hamstring problem that saw him miss several matches. But he was pictured back in a full training session in midweek, along with Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah who had also sat out recent games.

And in a message on the club site this afternoon, the Reds confirmed: "Thiago Alcantara and Fabinho will be included in Liverpool’s travelling squad for the Champions League final against Real Madrid.

"The pair will be among the players journeying to Paris for Saturday’s clash at Stade de France following injury concerns and are set to come into contention to return.

"Thiago has resumed training after being forced from the pitch with a muscle issue in the first half of the Reds’ 3-1 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers last Sunday. Fabinho, meanwhile, has not featured since sustaining a muscular problem at Aston Villa on May 10. Jurgen Klopp’s side will depart for France from John Lennon Airport later today."

Real Madrid, meanwhile, have a fully fit squad to choose from judging by early indications from the rival camp. The club released a list of players heading out for the game and it indicated a clean bill of health - with Gareth Bale and Eden Hazard included in the travelling party.
