Liverpool are continuing to monitor the fitness of Thiago Alcantara after the midfielder’s Carabao Cup final heartbreak.
Thiago was named in the starting line-up for Sunday’s Wembley showpiece against Chelsea, only to be forced to withdraw just minutes before the teams were due to step out for the game.
It has since emerged the Spaniard complained of a tight hamstring during the warm-up with the decision then taken to remove him from the side.
Thiago was in tears on the bench before kick-off but was all smiles after the game as the Reds earned a dramatic 11-10 penalty shoot-out triumph following an action-packed goalless draw.
Liverpool are yet to ascertain the extent of the problem, although the midfielder is already a major doubt for Wednesday’s FA Cup fifth round clash against Norwich City at Anfield.
With Thiago out, Naby Keita instead started with Harvey Elliott, who was initially not named in the matchday squad, promoted to the bench.
Elliott came on with 11 minutes of normal time remaining and went on to score in the shoot-out as Liverpool won the competition for a record ninth time.
