After arriving in A&E in December 2020, June Roche’s husband, Jake, sat alone and in pain for nine hours before being transferred to a cardiology ward after suffering a heart attack. He died 36 hours later, aged 48.
Jake died at a time when there were at least 4,000 extra deaths in hospitals in England during the first year of the pandemic, according to research, due to inadequate care brought on by the strain on health services.
