"They still crucified him" - Paul Pogba compares himself to Jesus amid Man Utd exit

Paul Pogba has compared himself to Jesus and claimed Manchester United failed to seduce him in his new Amazon Prime documentary series.

The World Cup winner has allowed behind-the-scenes access to his life and thoughts in five episodes of 'The Pogmentary' which are broadcast from Friday. The France star has left Old Trafford and is expected to re-sign for his former club Juventus.

He does not talk about his next employer but starts the first show by saying: “My name is Paul Pogba, I play at Manchester United., one of the best clubs on the planet. A few years ago, I won the World Cup with France. I want to be among the elite, outstanding. Now, I am at a turning point in my career. I have big decisions to make which are going to determine my future and I don’t have the right to make an error.”

But Pogba does give hints why he left Old Trafford on a free transfer for a second time. “When you like a girl, you do everything to seduce her and you don’t wait for her to leave to chase after her,” he said. “A player, he has to feel important in his team, his club. If you don’t have that, it’s over.”

He added: “As long as my players and my family are happy, I don't care if the others aren't.” And Pogba reflected: “Even Jesus wasn’t unanimously rejected, they still crucified him.” But the Frenchman also speak about his religious faith and his relationship with Islam. “Religion has calmed me down, made me open my eyes,” he explained. “Family comes first before everything else.”

It also shows periods of self doubt when he suffered a double fracture to his ankle in 2019 - and his strained relationship with former coach Jose Mourinho. “Here, you are all alone,” he said. “It is you and yourself. You have to be strong mentally.”

There are scenes with his close friends Blaise Matuidi and Antoine Greizmann. According to L’Equipe, the documentary also shows intimate moments with his wife Zulay and his two children. Zulay said in the final episode: “When he is at home, he is a normal person, an attentive father. He is not the player Paul Pogba. He is my husband and I don’t consider him a celebrity.”

At the end, Pogba says: “OK, you know all my story, my life, my family, my friends. You have shared my joys, my doubts about the future. It is only the beginning!”
