‘They someone’s husband, dad or even grandpa’: Beverage cart girl records day in the life on job. The golfers don’t realize they are on camera

A woman wanted to show what a day in the life of a beverage cart girl was like. So, she brought a recording device on the job.

The result? Many of the men she spoke with catcalled her while she worked, something that Samara Paranzino (@samarassecretlol) found a little questionable. She posted the video she recorded to TikTok, and since then, 954,000 people have seen her workday. While Paranzino found it funny, other commenters said the catcalling was “scary” and deserved attention for a different reason.

Paranzino’s job as a bev girl

On the job, Paranzino got a lot of compliments from older men golfing. One man asked her, “You found a boyfriend here?” When Paranzino said no, he replied, “You should be. You should have a guy for every day of the week.”

Some men said things that were more unusual for many of the women watching the TikTok. A golfer asked, “You like older dudes? Could have two on Sunday. You like older, shorter dudes?”

A TikToker paraphrased the video, saying, “‘You like old short dudes?’ That is the least attractive sentence of all time.”

The men offered money to take Paranzino out for dinner. Some, though, offered to let Paranzino play with them. One man said, “You’re the best round there… Call me. We’ll play together.”

High praise: scary or interesting?

While some people laughed at the men’s boldness in the comment sections, others felt concerned for Paranzino, considering the constant influx of pick-up attempts.

Some pointed out how unethical it was for the men on the course to flirt with Paranzino. “[They’re] someone’s husband, dad or even grandpa,” one commenter remarked.

Others felt uncomfortable with the encounters. “Please stay safe,” added one viewer.

Another said, “Stay safe babe. They’re all already pushing it way too far, [so] all it takes is one creep to cross the line… This doesn’t seem like a safe job at all.”

To many, it seemed like an easy way for men in high-power positions to treat women like objects. “I see men in corporate America in upper management or higher treat professional, educated women like they are prostitutes. Almost punched a man last week at a conference after he started speaking to someone on my team like this. Over it,” another added.

Some commenters questioned Paranzino, calling her line of work funny, to which she replied, “[It’s] sarcasm.” In the comment section, she expressed more discomfort at the idea of the comments, despite the attempted humorous tone of the original video.

Do older men catcall more than younger men?

There’s not necessarily empirical evidence to conclude that older men catcall more often than younger ones, but some people have noticed a difference in how different generations approach flirting.

On Reddit, a thread asked the very same question. Responses blamed the tendency on old-school philosophies. “It started in old school I guess and it stuck with them. The new gen doesn’t do it much,” said one user.

Regardless of generation, it appears it’s difficult being a beverage girl on a golf course. The unwanted attention can seem daunting and even feel dangerous for women placed in that position.

The Mary Sue has reached out to Paranzino for comment.
