The most dangerous online scams aimed at older adults rarely begin with an obviously ridiculous message. They often start with something familiar: a warning about a bank account, a computer problem, a government benefit, or a message from someone who appears to care.
That familiarity gives scammers an opening. The Federal Trade Commission reported that older adults lost billions of dollars to fraud in 2025, while certain scams continued to hit people 60 and older particularly hard.
