These are the Scottish constituencies that favour an election most

MORE rural parts of Scotland are the most in favour of calling another General Election, analysis has found.

The National has taken a look at figures showing support for a viral petition – which has now gained more than two million signatures – calling for another election as Labour’s popularity plummets.

However, the picture is more one of anti-Labour sentiment reflected in those constituencies’ election results rather than one of widespread buyer’s remorse.

Just one of the top 10 constituencies most in favour of another election were won by Labour at the most recent poll in July.

These are also more rural areas of Scotland, whereas the areas least in favour of another election are concentrated in the urban central belt.

The constituency most in favour of another election, where the petition has been signed by 3.31% of the electorate, is Aberdeenshire West and Kincardine, held for the Tories in July by former minister Andrew Bowie.

Last is the Labour-held constituency of Glasgow South on 1.34%, which was won by Gordon McKee (below).

Of the bottom 10 constituencies least supportive of another election, two are held by parties other than Labour – the LibDems’ seat of Mid Dumbartonshire and the SNP’s Dundee Central.

The Scottish average across constituencies is 2.23%.
