These are the most expensive contested elections in the Minnesota Senate

Elections for all 67 seats in the Minnesota State Senate will take place on Nov. 8, 2022.

This article details the five most expensive contested general elections in the State Senate.

This information comes from candidate reports to the Minnesota Campaign Finance and Public Disclosure Board covering the period of Jan. 1, 2021, through July 18, 2022.

Five general elections with the most fundraising

#1 District 45 – $439,228

Kelly Morrison (D) raised $246,576 and Kathleen Fowke (R) raised $192,652.

#2 District 24 – $162,494

Incumbent Carla Nelson (R) raised $44,606 and Aleta Borrud (D) raised $117,888.

#3 District 36 – $134,057

Incumbent Roger Chamberlain (R) raised $66,160 and Heather Gustafson (D) raised $67,897.

#4 District 3 – $133,746

Grant Hauschild (D) raised $100,655 and Andrea Zupancich (R) raised $33,091.

#5 District 14 – $124,636

Incumbent Aric Putnam (D) raised $81,181 and Tama Theis (R) raised $43,455.

The data above are based on campaign finance reports that active Minnesota PACs submitted to the Minnesota Campaign Finance and Public Disclosure Board. Political expenditures that are not controlled by candidates or their campaigns, known as satellite spending, are not included in candidate totals. Federal PACs are not required to report to state agencies.
