These are the best colors to paint your kitchen in 2024, according to Sherwin-Williams

Green kitchen, neutral kitchen, aubergine kitchen.

Refreshing your home decor at the start of a new year can be a great way to give your space an updated feel, and changing the paint colors is arguably one of the easiest ways to do so.

Knowing what colors to choose, however, can be a tricky decision. For the kitchen, the heart of the home in which we spend so much of our time, it's important to choose kitchen color trends that reflect your interior style but are also liveable for day-to-day use.

To help inspire you with which colors are best suited to refresh your kitchen for 2024, the iconic and designer-loved paint brand Sherwin-Williams have released the exact shades you should be trying out.

1. Deep blue

Sue Wadden director of color marketing at Sherwin-Williams suggests Naval as a shade of deep blue to embrace in the kitchen. Dark kitchen cabinets remain a popular interior design trend and can be a great way to create a cozy feeling instead of the more typical light hues found in this room.

'If you’re starting with a blank canvas and your kitchen is completely white, add this deep blue hue to cabinets to fully transform the space into a coastal-chic oasis,' says Sue. 'If you want to go one step further to achieve this vibe, include some wooden accents as well.'

2. Cool-toned green

Decorating with green has been an incredibly popular trend this year, and is one that interior designers predict will continue into 2024. If you're drawn to this nature-inspired hue but prefer a muted approach to your decor, Sherwin-Williams' Pewter Green is a great choice.

'Turn your kitchen into a down-to-earth yet elegant room with this cool green shade,' suggests Sue. 'Dark yet calming, it is ideal for a kitchen since it complements natural elements like wood and metal very well.'

3. Warm gray

If you prefer decorating with neutrals in your home decor ideas, consider opting for a warm-toned gray such as Skyline Steel in replacement of cool whites or grays. This will maintain a pared-back look yet add warmth to your kitchen to make it feel inviting and cozy.

'This delightfully warm stone gray is a great choice for homeowners looking for a neutral and clean look in the kitchen but are still looking to incorporate some depth and a touch of color – especially since it pairs wonderfully with warm whites,' says Sue.

4. Aubergine

This year, aubergine hues have been a popular kitchen trend. Perfect for creating a cozy kitchen that feels timeless and sophisticated, aubergine hues are a classic color trend that is having a major comeback. To create this look, Sue recommends opting for Sherwin-Williams' Carnelian

'To add some drama and mystery into a kitchen, this deep saturated violet with warm red undertones is a beautiful choice. Don’t be afraid of this bolder choice, since it’s easy to pair with clean neutrals, thanks to a muted tone.'

5. Warm white

While white may have become less popular in recent years in favor of darker colors, you can certainly still decorate with white and achieve a balanced look in the kitchen. By opting for warm-toned white paints instead of anything cool-toned, such as Sherwin-Williams' Shoji White, you can achieve a minimalist look that doesn't end up looking stark.

'You can’t go wrong with this warm and creamy white shade that borders on greige to create the ultimate clean kitchen look, while still keeping it a little bit cozy thanks to its warmth.'

There are endless color ideas to embrace in your kitchen, whether you prefer soft neutrals or something more bold. For more inspiration, consider the color trend forecasters predict will dominate interiors in 2024.
