These are the best cameras in 2024 – and they're all HEAVILY discounted for Black Friday!

Too many cameras!.
The best cameras to buy on Black Friday 2024

People ask me "What's the best camera?" throughout the year, but when Black Friday rolls around my inbox is flooded with requests for recommendations. So if you're searching for the perfect camera on Black Friday, you're in the right place – especially since all my top picks are currently discounted!

Cameras come in all shapes and sizes, so the best option depends on your needs. The camera you'd take to the beach won't be the same one you'd use to shoot a wedding. That's why I've curated a list of the best cameras across various categories. Black Friday is a fantastic time to make a purchase—but only if you choose the right camera for you. To help, let’s break down some key factors to consider:

• Resolution: Cameras top out at 25MP for Micro Four Thirds (MFT) sensors, 40MP for APS, 61MP for full-frame and 102MP for medium format.

• Video capabilities: Most cameras shoot 4K 30p, but 60p provides smoother footage, and 120p allows for slow-motion effects.

• Burst rate: DSLR cameras max out at 16fps, while mirrorless models can go all the way up to 120fps.

• Memory cards: Dual slots are preferable to avoid losing data in case a card should fail.

• IBIS (in-body image stabilization): This feature helps compensate for camera shake.

Another crucial factor is sensor size, though its importance is sometimes exaggerated. Full-frame sensors perform better in low light and create a shallower depth of field, while MFT and APS-C sensors allow for smaller camera bodies (and lenses!) and greater lens reach, which is useful for distant subjects.

Finally, remember that a camera is only as good as its lens, so be sure to check out some of the kits included in the deals below!

If Instax isn't your bag, I've spotted a couple of great Polaroid deals online. The Polaroid Now+ Generation 2 isn't just my personal favorite, I also think it's the best instant camera around for creative shooting. It takes great full-size photos (they're the same size as Instax Wide photos, just a different shape) and offers modes like manual control, light trails and aperture priority, along with extras like physical lens filters and a even a lens cap.

If you want to buy direct from Polaroid, the Now+ Gen 2 is down from $149.99 to $119.99 – or just $108.00 if you become a Polaroid Member, which is free! Alternatively, you can pick up the Now+ with two packs of film (16 shots) for $139.99 at Amazon.

🇺🇸 Polaroid Now+ Gen 2 was $149.99 now $119.99 / $108.00 @ Polaroid

GoPro's new budget model, confusingly called the GoPro Hero (2024), is now available at an even more budget-friendly price, as a couple of retailers have slashed it by 20 bucks in both the US and UK. The latest Hero is a camera that a lot of folks (including me) have been waiting for. If you don't need all the bells and whistles of the new GoPro Hero 13 Black, this entry-level model is the perfect way to get great quality action camera footage at a great price.

🇺🇸 GoPro Hero (2024) was $199.99 now $179.99 @ B&H

Here's a fantastic saving on my favorite high-end portable LED! The Rotolight Neo 3 Pro is a brilliant on or off-camera light for stills and video. Aside from being super powerful (it even performs high-speed sync flash, making it great for photography) it has 100 built-in digital filters and effects – including authentic gel colors from Lee and Rosco, and CineSFX effects for video work. It's 57% off at Adorama, which makes a single Neo 3 Pro a superb bargain – and gives you the chance to get a pair of them for extra-creative shooting.

🇺🇸 Rotolight Neo 3 Pro was $749.00 now $349.00 @ Adorama

Black Friday season is the perfect time to pick up essentials like memory cards – they're not big, sexy, glamorous purchases, but they're the ones you'll be grateful for long after that bargain blender is gathering dust on the shelf. There are some good deals on cards, but $45 off this SanDisk Extreme 64GB UHS-II card is hard to beat. I've got a couple of these cards and they're great for everyday use, as well as when I need to crank out a bit of 8K or stills on a hi-res camera.

🇺🇸 SanDisk Extreme 64GB UHS-II was $99.99 now $54.99 @ Amazon

Holy smokes! There are some wild discounts on Holy Stone drones on Amazon right now. A combination of Black Friday savings on top of additional vouchers (which you have to keep your eyes open for, as they're easy to miss!) give you savings of up to 50%. Make sure to look for the orange "Coupon" icon below some of the prices, as you won't get the full discount without it!

This one is an instant purchase for me! One of my favorite and lenses, and an absolute essential for my camera bag, is half price. The OM System 9mm Fisheye Body Cap Lens is the rebranded update of the Olympus 9mm f/8 Fisheye Body Cap Lens – a body cap that doubles as a surprisingly good 18mm equivalent fisheye, with an ultra-wide field of view that's great for things like travel photography (I actually shot a magazine commission in India mostly on this lens!).

Every Olympus, OM and Panasonic user should have one of these – and I'm going to replace my beat-up old Olympus version that you can see above!

🇬🇧 OM System 9mm Fisheye Body Cap Lens was £89.99 now £45.00 @ Amazon

If you're looking for a great deal on an instant camera, check out the Walmart-exclusive Instax Mini SE bundles. From what I can gather, these are replacing the Mini 7 series that Walmart used to sell – they're entry level Instax cameras without a selfie mode, and with four exposure options (so you should get more control over your images). They also take four AA batteries (included), unlike the two needed by recent Mini models.

These bundles come with a pack of film (10 shots), camera case, photo album and photo frame stickers for just $55, making them fantastic value when you consider that the Instax Mini 12 costs $69.95 without any film or extras. Each bundle comes in a great looking box, so they'd make a great gift.

🇺🇸 Instax Mini SE bundle (lavender) was $78.38 now $55.00 @ Walmart
🇺🇸 Instax Mini SE Nordic Holiday bundle (grey)
was $78.00 now $55.00 @ Walmart

There are some nice savings on my favorite Peak Design sling bags right now. I use the Everyday Sling 3L to carry my Olympus / OM System gear, and the larger Everyday Sling 6L to carry my Canon R5 or Hasselblad X2D. The quality is fantastic, with great weatherproofing (including on the zips), and Peak Design's lifetime warranty is absolutely legit – as I found out personally, when it replaced my old Sling 5L after the zip broke. For my money, there's no better bag and definitely no better customer service than this. (Note that the Coyote colorway is slightly more expensive.)

🇺🇸 Peak Design Everyday Sling 3L was $89.95 now $71.96 @ Peak Design
🇺🇸 Peak Design Everyday Sling 6L
was $119.95 now $95.96 @ Peak Design
🇺🇸 Peak Design Everyday Sling 10L

Do you want to know the absolute best hack for finding Black Friday bargains? Shop used. I've bought a boatload of camera gear from MPB over the years, and not only is the service brilliant but everything is graded – and each item is individually photographed, so you can see the exact camera or accessory that you're buying.

As an example of the great prices on offer, you can get a full frame Canon EOS RP for as low as $544 / £544 in excellent condition. By contrast, the lowest new price on that camera is $835 in the US and $854 in the UK. So take a look at MPB and see how much you can save.

There are quite a few cheap 35mm film cameras on the market right now, and quite a few of them are on offer for black Friday – some as low as $13. But my advice? The cheapest of these cheap cameras have really bad build quality – especially internally, where the film slips from the teeth on the cheap gears. My advice is to spend a few more bucks on one of the Ektar models from Kodak, which are also discounted for Amazon Prime members. Best of all, because they're half-frame cameras, you get twice as many exposures from each roll of film!

🇺🇸 Kodak Ektar H35 (white) was $44.95 now $35.96 @ Amazon (Prime)
🇺🇸 Kodak Ektar H35N (silver)
was $57.99 now $46.39 @ Amazon (Prime)

All the photography textbooks say it, because it's true: everyone should own a "nifty fifty"! The Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 is a truly essential prime, and I use mine so much that it basically lives on the front of my R5. It's an amazing all-purpose lens for everyday photography, travel, street, reportage, half-length portraits… and if you use it on an APS-C body, it becomes an effective 85mm lens, making it perfect for taking headshots (especially with its f/1.8 aperture, which makes it great for low-light shooting as well as separating your subject and blurring the background).

There's a massive £85 discount at Amazon right now – just make sure to tick the little "Apply £25 voucher" box underneath the main price listing.

When I first started printing my work, it was with Canon's ImagePrograf line. And much as I love the new Pro-1100, honestly the ImagePrograf Pro-300 is the best bang-for-buck pro printer and absolutely perfect for my needs. A wireless A3 / 13 x 19" printer that lays down deep, rich blacks for absolutely stunning mono photographs – and it delivers borderless printing, too. The Pro-300 is great value at full price, but absolutely unbeatable with these Black Friday discounts.

🇺🇸 Canon ImagePrograf Pro-300 was $899 now $699 @ Amazon
🇬🇧 Canon ImagePrograf Pro-300

If you love instant cameras, and you also wish that your smartphone snaps could be printed on real Instax film instead of just sitting on your screen, the Instax Mini LiPlay is for you. It combines a digital camera with Instax's authentic analog exposure technology – so you can use it as an instant camera (and get a photo instantly), use it like a digital camera (and save images to the memory card), or use it like a printer (and beam images from your phone). You can even record an audio clip and add a QR code to your prints, which can be scanned to provide an accompanying sound bite!

🇺🇸 Instax Mini LiPlay was $159.95 now $99.95 @ Adorama

I own a Red camera which is meant to be the best in the business, but if I had to start over with my filmmaking I'd pick up this amazing deal on the Canon EOS R5 C that sees it plummet to just £2,939 this Black Friday - That's a MASSIVE £1,560 discount on this 8K powerhouse.

Now at its LOWEST-EVER UK price following a second recent price drop, you can get your hands on this amazing camera to shoot an astonishing 8K video internally, while also being able to take stills at a razor-sharp 45-megapixels.

🇬🇧 Canon EOS R5 C: now £2,939 at Wex Photo Video

I have an enormous soft spot for Nikon's ridiculous bridge cameras like the Coolpix P950, which has a ludicrous 24-2000mm zoom range. That's an 83x optical zoom! If you've never used one of these cameras, it's hard to convey what that looks like – so take a peep at the animation above, because it shows you just how epic it is to go from 24mm at the wide end all the way to a 2000mm super-telephoto. I love using this camera for day trips and wildlife photography – seriously, if you're someone who loves taking pictures at zoos, safari parks or farms, the Nikon Coolpix P950 will be your best friend.

🇬🇧 Nikon Coolpix P950 was £849.00 now ££705.99 @ Amazon

I originally started using this portable generator on long location shoots, to keep my cameras and laptop charged up. But after extreme weather events like the bomb cyclone and Hurricane Helene affected friends, I've been recommending the Jackery Explorer 1000 as an all-purpose generator in case you lose power – especially since it comes in bundles with solar panels, to you can keep it charged up via the sun in the event of emergency. I always throw this in the trunk of my car, and keep it charged up 24/7 in case there's a problem at home.

🇺🇸 Jackery Explorer 1000 v2 was $799 now $349 @ Amazon
🇺🇸 Jackery Explorer 1000 v2 + 2 solar panels

If you're on the lookout for a DSLR, Nikon's fantastic enthusiast body is a great bargain right now. The Nikon D7500 packs a great combination of firepower; its 20.9MP APS-C sensor can fire off 8fps bursts (with a chunky 50-RAW buffer capacity), capture 4K 30p video, and has a surprisingly high sensitivity ceiling of ISO51,200, expandable to ISO1,640,000! With its weather-sealed carbon-fiber body, there's plenty of punch in this highly capable DSLR.

🇺🇸 Nikon D7500 was $999.95 now $679.49 @ Walmart

If you're a Taylor Swift fan, you might be interested to know that the camera she uses – the Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark IV – is currently discounted by over $100 / £100. It's one of my favorite cameras too (I even bought one for my ex) thanks to its 20.3MP Micro Four Thirds sensor, supremely light and compact form factor, 180° flipping selfie screen, 4K 30p video, 4.5 stops of stabilization… it's a fantastic everyday, travel and street photography camera. And if you don't believe that this is the camera Taylor uses, check out the paparazzi photo below!

Kodak's irrepressibly popular compact camera has received a humble but welcome discount, making the already competitively-priced camera even cheaper. The Kodak Pixpro FZ45 is a beginner and budget-friendly camera, which also boasts the TikTok-trending image quality currently being sought by Gen Zers. The 1/2.3-inch BSI CMOS churns out modest 16.35MP still and FullHD 30p video, but it truly qualifies as a compact camera thanks to its tiny 93 x 60 x 29mm frame that weighs a paltry 117g.
