Park users in Nottingham have hit out at people who left rubbish lying around after one of the hottest days of the year so far. Temperatures reached 29C on June 11 and Nottingham parks including the Forest Recreation Ground and the Arboretum were busy.
The Forest Recreation Ground was not a pretty sight on the morning of Monday, June 12, with items left behind including a pair of trainers among dozens of water bottles. The bins on the grounds were overflowing with rubbish and carrier bags. Food wrappers were also noticeable in the park.
Mohammed Asaad , 31 who lives in Hyson Green, said: “I walk my dog here twice a day and as soon as I got into the park, all I could see was rubbish. The bins are full, yes, but people still could’ve taken rubbish and put it in the same plastic bag they bought all their snacks for picnics. It’s not okay. I don’t want my dog stepping in sharp bits of plastic or anything else for that matter. People have just disrespected one of the most well known parks.”

Rachel Marriot, 24 lives in Sherwood. Rachel, who is self-employed said: “I come here all the time, I come to go walking and exercise with my friends as this [the park] is in the middle of where we both live. I did notice the rubbish this morning and there’s no excuse for it, it’s not fair for people who use the park regularly and of course, animals. I understand people want drinks and ice creams and to have picnics but clean up after.”
Rachel continued: “The bins are overflowing but I would have stuffed the rubbish in my bag until I found another bin, it isn’t hard.”
Eleanor Stewart, a 21-year-old student from Hyson Green, said: “It was such a hot day and there were many people in the park. I went to the Arboretum to meet friends and people were being quite sensible, there’s always others that ruin it by dumping rubbish whether there’s bins or not.”
