The latest episode of Daredevil: Born Again season 2 features a pretty neat Marvel Easter egg, but fans are trying to work out whether or not it's intentional. Warning: there are spoilers for Daredevil: Born Again season 2 episode 4 ahead!
Around 47 minutes into this week's episode, after Daredevil intervenes in the fight between Fisk and Bullseye and tackles the sharpshooter into the alley outside Fogwell's Gym, there's a fun visual reference to the Watcher.
One fan on Reddit noticed that two of the fluorescent lights in the darkness of the gym look like the all-seeing What If…? character is lurking in the background of the scene.
"I really hope the Watcher is taking a break from cosmic scale events to watch the Kingpin's boxing match lmao," another viewer replied.
"I mean if we look at the cartoons marvel has done the watcher simply just appears in the background it’s not had attention drawn to it he’s just there. The only exception was I am groot," said someone else. "Every other cartoon has just had his silhouette and eyes be there and they continue like nothing is there."
"That’s way too perfect to not be on purpose. Plus, that ending was most likely a significant event in the multiverse," said another fan.
The ending of episode 4 will certainly send shockwaves through Hell's Kitchen, if nothing else, after Bullseye crashed Mayor Fisk's fight night and grievously injured his wife Vanessa. With things taking such a turn for the dramatic only halfway through the season, it's safe to say that New York isn't going to be the same going forward.
