On February 12, 2026, Harley-Davidson filed a safety recall report with the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for certain 2021 through 2026 Sportster S motorcycles within a certain production date range. The issue: The top triple clamp on affected units "may fracture under extreme loading conditions." If this happens, the recall warns, it could lead a rider to lose control of their bike, which could in turn increase the risk of a crash.
If you're thinking that this recall sounds familiar, that's because it's an expansion of a recall originally issued in September 2025, regarding a subset of the population of Sportster S motorcycles that may be affected. But there's a crucial clarification I need to add at this point, because this new recall in February 2026 goes beyond merely expanding the range of potentially affected motorcycles covered by this recall.
Around 9,401 Sportster S bikes produced between May 18, 2021 and October 27, 2025 may potentially be affected, according to Harley's records. This represents approximately 0.1% of the population. But the new recall actually goes beyond these bikes, because apparently some of the top triple clamps that were included in the original recall service kits created to address the initial recall may also have this issue.
In plain language, that means that even if you already had a recall service performed on your 2021 or newer Sportster S, you still need to have it examined by a qualified Harley technician and potentially replaced with an updated, corrected part. This recall advises that Harley will also be inspecting all remaining Recall 0190 (25V590) kits remaining in its inventory at present, which its records show to be around 903 units.
Now, interestingly, there is an additional date range listed elsewhere in this recall that is outside the production date range I noted above. Under the subheading "Description of the cause," the official reason for this recall given is that "incorrect parts (either an old revision or a new part with a casting anomaly) may have been assembled onto the motorcycles as part of Recall 0190 (that's the September 2025 recall mentioned previously) or on motorcycles built between 10/08/2025 and 01/09/2026.
That makes it sound like Sportster S manufactured up until January 9, 2026 may be affected, and not the previous date window listed earlier in this recall. As of February 13, 2026, Harley says it is not aware of accidents or injuries related to this recall.
Harley notified its dealer network between February 12 and February 19, 2026, and plans to issue a notification to registered owners about this recall between February 19 and February 26, 2026. Owners will be instructed to schedule a recall inspection with their local authorized Harley-Davidson dealer, where a technician will inspect the top triple clamp to determine whether it requires replacement. If it does require replacement, the service will be performed free of charge to the customer.
