Theory emerges on why Liverpool don't want Neymar transfer despite Jurgen Klopp remark

Paris Saint-Germain winger Neymar is reportedly up for sale this summer, and despite being linked with a money-spinning move to the Premier League, there is a belief that the Brazilian would not fit in at Liverpool.

The Brazilian has failed to hit the heights that many thought he would since heading to the Ligue 1 from Barcelona for £198million. He scored 13 in 22 league appearances last season, but his time at the Parc des Princes may have come to an end.

Reports have circulated that PSG are willing to listen to offers for Neymar this summer and wants to cash in on the 30-year-old, who is valued at £67.5m by Transfermarkt. Chelsea have been linked with the former Barca star this summer, and it appears they may be the only Premier League outfit keen on the versatile forward.

Ex-Liverpool midfielder Don Hutchinson believes that his former side are not in the market for Neymar because he wouldn’t fit into the system at Anfield. He told HITC : “No disrespect to PSG. I read all the headlines back in the day. He wanted to be out of Messi’s shadow and win a Ballon d’Or. But it never felt like the right move.

"He was flying, at his peak and he was nearly untouchable. Then he made the move. He has had some horrendous ankle operations and long-term injuries he has struggled to come back from. He likes a bit of lifestyle away.

“I see any move that happens for Neymar, as probably a few years down the line. Then it will be a test to see where he wants to play and it might be Brazil. Go back to Brazil. Go and play for the love of the game.

“He is a talent. In his pomp, there was only Messi technically better than him. He was that good. You look at the top four teams outside of England, no one can afford him. Then there are teams like Liverpool, who don’t really want him because he wouldn’t fit into their system.”

With reports that teammate Kylian Mbappe will have a significant amount of power over transfer rulings at PSG, it remains to be seen whether the France international will be keen to continue playing alongside Neymar. Speaking in 2020, Neymar was full of admiration for Liverpool and full of praise for Jurgen Klopp.

He told the Daily Star : “Over the last two seasons Liverpool have played some of the best football in Europe. Last season winning the Champions League and this season winning a league was strong, because they won the Premier League so comfortably.

Their coach has built a strong team and next season I am sure they will be very competitive again.” The Reds have continued to improve from that point onwards and are now widely regarded as one of the best teams in the world, and potentially adding one of Europe’s biggest talents into the mix could tempt Klopp into greenlighting a move for Neymar. However, the arrivals of Darwin Nunez and Fabio Carvalho would suggest that the former Borussia Dortmund boss has addressed any issues he had with his attackers.
