Theodore? Ayla? David? Check most popular baby name in your London borough and beyond

The ONS tool allows you to find the most popular baby name by local authority -

Amelia and Muhammad were the most popular names for girls and boys born in London in 2023.

This fairly closely resembled the national picture in England and Wales - with Muhammad the most popular boy’s name and Amelia coming second to Olivia.

But there is quite a surprising variation between London boroughs - with David the most popular boy’s name in Hackney, Alexander in Kensington and Chelsea, Noah in Haringey, George in Bromley and Theodore in Lambeth.

For girls, the most popular name was Sofia in Merton, Maya in Southwark, Mia in Bexley and Ayla in Waltham Forest.

The Office for National Statistics have provided a search tool that allows people in England and Wales to find the most popular baby names in their area, based on the statistics available for 2023.

You can search by local authority using the maps below.
