Theo Bair "improving all the time" as St Johnstone face Nicky Clark injury sweat ahead of Kilmarnock trip

Callum Davidson insists Theo Bair has improved since the start of the season - and that the Canadian forward is desperate for a chance.

There is a possibility that chance will come on Saturday afternoon against Kilmarnock with experienced frontman Nicky Clark struggling for fitness.

Bair, who has not started a league game this year, does have fond memories of Rugby Park having netted a screamer there back in October.

“We’ve a few issues for Saturday,” Saints boss Callum Davidson said. “Nicky Clark is 50-50, he just landed on his ankle and we are concerned it’s a high ankle sprain. We will see how he is come Friday.”

Davidson added: “Theo scored his goal there. He’s got fond memories of scoring that.

“Theo is improving all the time. It’s very important Theo gets the right balance of what he does in training and taking it into the game.

“He’s had chances of 15-20 minutes here and there. Now he’s definitely improved since the start of the season, working really hard, desperate to play.

“As is Zak Rudden, as is the likes of Jamie Murphy. So I’m not short of attacking options if Nicky is to be out.

“Connor McLennan played in that position as well so we’ve four or five who could come in.”

Stevie May has been a constant in the forward department.

“Stevie has nailed down his position in the team,” Davidson explained. “He’s one, ever since I’ve been here, I know I can trust to do his job.

“What we’ve always said is can we get more goals in him, can he create more?

“This season he’s definitely done that. Probably down to Nicky’s partnership. Now it’s down to linking another partnership, how well does he work with Zak, Theo, Jamie, Connor?

“That’s a big thing because these guys want to play and it’s up to them to hopefully feed off Stevie.”
