Roller coaster riders were left trapped around 50 metres in the air in 37C heat for over an hour after their ride malfunctioned.
The thrillseekers were pictured stranded, dangling in the air as temperatures at the theme park soared.
The ‘Abismo’ ride in the Parque de Atracciones in Madrid, Spain, suffered an issue that left at least ten theme park goers stuck on Wednesday, August 3.
Instead of enjoying speeds of more than 65mph along the twists and drops of the ride the group found themselves stuck due to a technical failure.
They were left pointing vertically upwards at the very top of the ride which broke down just after 9pm, shortly before the park was due to shut for the day.
As the rest of the park shut around them and night fell they hung there for around an hour until it was possible to bring visitors down safely, according to el Diario . Emergency services were not brought in to get them down.
On the day, temperatures in Madrid grew to a sweltering 37C and thankfully no injuries were reported, Spanish News Today said .
The park opened as normal the following day.
Parque de Atracciones has said its rides are all checked daily and they have the necessary security protocols in place.
Wednesday’s malfunction was reportedly down to a specific technical failure according to El Mundo.
The ‘Abismo’ or Abyss ride is one of the park’s most “exclusive” rides and billed as one of the most “spectacular” of its kind worldwide.
The website claims: "Abismo will draw figures in the air such as corkscrews, hills or inversions, which you will experience from within.
"You will have the greatest impact in the final part of the route since it will ascend again to the tower of the rollercoaster, but on this occasion, it will fall on its back,".
However, yesterday, the ride didn’t fall back.
