'Theirs to lose' - Liverpool told why they can catch Newcastle and beat Chelsea to top four

Liverpool have been told by Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink that they have a better chance than Chelsea of finishing in the top four.

The Reds were held to a goalless draw with Chelsea in their Premier League clash on Saturday afternoon. It leaves Liverpool 10 points adrift of the top four places having played half of their total fixtures.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are now without a win in their last three top flight fixtures. However, Saturday's draw was the first time that Liverpool had kept a clean sheet in the league since October 19.

Liverpool are also 10 points behind third-placed Newcastle, who have now played one game more. The Toon were held to a goalless draw with Crystal Palace in their latest fixture.

Former Chelsea striker Hasselbaink has explained why he thinks that Liverpool have a better chance than his old club of qualifying for next season’s Champions League and catch Newcastle in the table.

He said: “It’s theirs [Newcastle] to lose, and it’s refreshing to see them there. And the way that they are playing, they deserve all of it.

“I think Chelsea is in a transition. Liverpool, the thing with them is they can go 10 games unbeaten as they have done in previous years.

“So Liverpool, for me, have a better chance than Chelsea to catch them [Newcastle], but if they can keep getting those clean sheets then they will score goals and win matches.

“For me, it’s theirs [Newcastle] to lose.”
