Ahead of Spider-Man: Brand New Day hitting the big screen this summer, a US cinema chain has listed the Marvel movie on its website, but the movie description states that it takes place after Avengers: Doomsday, which sure is news to us.
The synopsis over on Regal Theatres reads, "After Doomsday, Peter Parker tries to focus on college and leave Spider-Man behind. But when a new threat endangers his friends, he must break his promise and suit up again, teaming with an unexpected ally to protect those he loves."
This goes against where we thought the new Spidey movie would fit on the Marvel timeline. We know that Spider-Man 4 is set after Tom Holland's last solo Spidey movie, as the official synopsis from Marvel starts with, "Four years have passed since the events of No Way Home, and Peter is now an adult living entirely alone." Since it is being released before Doomsday, surely it is set before, right?
If No Way Home takes place in 2024, that means Brand New Day takes place in 2028. As for Doomsday, thanks to the Thunderbolts post-credits scene, the new Avengers film will commence sometime after Thunderbolts, which was set in late 2027. So, Doomsday could start in 2028, the same year as Brand New Day. But which will come first? Neither Marvel nor Sony has yet to comment on the matter.

If the movie does indeed take place after Doomsday (a big if, as we'd guess this synopsis is outdated or flat out incorrect), we have to think about what that means for Holland's hero. As far as we know, Holland has not been cast in Doomsday; however, if Spidey does show up for the Avengers battle against Robert Downey Jr.'s new villain, that might explain why the tone in the first Brand New Day trailer is so dark, as if something terrible has happened in the city beforehand.
From the official synopsis, we know that Spider-Man has continued to fight crime in the years since we last saw him, devoting "himself entirely to protecting his city." So if Doom were to threaten New York, Peter Parker would be in that fight. However, in the trailer, we see Spidey's powers evolve, with the hero's body undergoing profound changes and forming organic webs. This could well be a symptom of a recent big battle. We will just have to wait and see.
