A meat pie served at a pub in Lancashire for more than £8,000 has been named one of the most extortionately-priced dishes from restaurants around the world.
The meat pie, once served at Burnley’s Fence Gate Inn, cost an eye-watering £8,195 - working out at around £1,024 a slice - due to its extensive and unique ingredients including Japanese Wagyu beef, Chinese Matsutake mushrooms and winter black truffles.
Curated by former head chef Spencer Burge, the pie’s recipe also included two bottles of 1982 Chateau Mouton Rothschild red wine, costing more than £4,000, and was elegantly topped with gold leaf.

The pie has been named one of the fifth most expensive dishes in the world, beaten by a seven-cheese pizza in Italy, a Dubai gold covered cupcake and an Sri Lankan 80-carat aquamarine stone dessert.
Topping the list, which was compiled by travel specialist Scott Dunn, came a gold-infused corn tortilla served at the Grand Velas Los Cabos Resort in Mexico. Lancs Live reports the dish, which is stuffed with Kobe Beef, Almas Beluga Caviar and Black Truffle Brie cheese, will cost you a wild £20,134.
Fence Gate's £8,195 pie holds the Guinness World Record for 'most expensive meat pie' - a title it has clinched onto since it was first served in November 2005.
Speaking to the M.E.N in 2005, Fence Gate owner Kevin Berkins described the pie as the result of an experiment to create something sophisticated featuring the 'highest-quality ingredients'.
He explained: “It started as a bit of silliness and quickly got out of control.
"It's a very sophisticated pie. It's like anything else, if you drive a Rolls-Royce, you know you are driving something prestigious.
"Not everyone's going to order it but it's good for a special occasion if someone wants to be part of a real eating experience."
The pub has since resorted to serving much more affordable pies, with the Fence Gate’s winter menu currently boasting a steak, ale and mushroom pie and a cheese and onion pie, which are a relative steal at £15.95.
The 18th century inn also features a number of other homemade and hearty dishes including pub classics and three varieties of sausages. It serves real ales, which rotate regularly and is linked to the 24-room Fence Gate Lodge.
