The Woods Bar announces closure of city centre venue after nearly nine years

Another popular city centre bar announced that it will be closing its doors.

The Woods Bar and Kitchen will be closing for a final time on February 25 after nearly nine years in operation.

Owners said they have decided to "move on" and leave "on a high" in an emotional social media post, but have hinted that they could be opening another venture in the near future.

The Woods has become a popular fixture in the city centre due to its live music and food offering.

In a statement, bosses said: "After nearly nine fantastic years it is with great pride and affection we have decided to move on from The Woods.

"We would like to thank all our loyal customers, suppliers and fantastic musicians who have been on this journey with us, and what a journey it has been. The last 12 months have been the best and the time is right for us to leave on a high.

"I would personally like to thank the staff who have worked so hard the last 12 months and I know without all of your effort we would never have made it this far. Our last day will be Saturday, February 25 if you want to pop in for a final hurrah. It is not a goodbye it is just a goodbye for now, as we will see you soon."

Hundreds of regulars shared their disappointment over the closure with many reminiscing over good nights spent under its roof.

One customer wrote: "Be sad to see it close it was a really good wee pub with some of the best live music ill be sure to try the new place when it opens."

Another added: "Was such a great venue and the staff were always so helpful. Good luck with future endeavours."

We recently reported how another iconic city centre bar and venue will be closing its doors.

The Admiral is being forced to shut down due to its building Waterloo Street being earmarked for redevelopment. Plans drawn up for the site show the iconic bar replaced with a cafe.
