The West End will see a new addition to its roster of musicals next summer, and the latest installation is sure to be a crowd pleaser.
Currently being staged in Leicester, The Wizard of Oz is coming to the London Palladium for a summer season from June 23, 2023.
The show features music from the Oscar-winning 1939 film, including Over The Rainbow, Follow The Yellow Brick Road, and We’re Off To See the Wizard, alongside additional songs from Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice.
After four years of planning, The Wizard of Oz, directed by Nikolai Foster (Billy Elliot The Musical, A Chorus Line), premiered at Curve Leicester last month.
Casting for the London production is yet to be confirmed.
“The London Palladium is the home of the summer blockbuster musicals, and there really will be no place like the Palladium for Dorothy, Toto, Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Lion, as they embark on their journey down the Yellow Brick Road,” said producer Michael Harrison.
When is The Wizard of Oz in London?
The Wizard of Oz will begin previews at the London Palladium on June 23, ahead of an opening night on July 6.
Performances will run until September 3.
Who will be involved in The Wizard of Oz production?
Nikolai Foster is directing the production, with choreography by Shay Barclay, set design from Colin Richmond, and costume and puppet design by Rachael Canning. Lighting design is by Ben Cracknell, with sound design from Adam Fisher.
Casting for the London production will be announced at a later date. The Leicester cast includes Christina Bianco as Glinda, and Georgina Onourah as Dorothy.
