The Witches! Luke Thallon! Two Strangers’! We’ve got it all on this week’s theatre podcast

We're back with a brand new spectacular, all-singing, all-dancing, theatre podcast this week.

Nick Curtis and Nancy Durrant review the National Theatre’s Christmas show The Witches, adapted from the Roald Dahl book by Olivier winner Lucy Kirkwood and Daniel Malloy.

Starring Katherine Kingsley, Daniel Rigby and a whole host of super-talented child actors is this the Christmas show to beat? And could it even follow in a previous Dahl adaptation’s footsteps, and like Matilda head to the West End?

The second review is of Two Strangers (carry a cake across New York), a glorious ode to Eighties and Nineties romcoms, sharply written by Jim Barne and Kit Buchan.

The show – starring Sam Tutty, who originated the lead in Dear Evan Hansen in the UK, and Hamilton alumna Dujonna Gift – could well be another pick of our Christmas recommendations.

We are joined this week by Luke Fallon. The actor who made his debut in Albion at the Almeida in 2017, is returning to the venue for a fourth time, in an adaptation of Polish director Pawel Pawlikowski’s acclaimed film Cold War.

He talks about how the show was inspired by Elvis Costello, who has written the score, and starring The Witcher’s Anya Chalotra, who happens to be a buddy from drama school.

Nancy and the Nicks also sprinkle in more of the gossip from The 67th Evening Standard Theatre Awards – two words: Elton John.

And with the festive season just around the corner, they offer their top picks of the Christmas shows to see this year. We're talking the returning classics, the nutcrackers, and the pantomimes ...Oh yes we are.
