The Witcher 4 Now Has More Than 500 Developers — How Big Is Too Big for a Single RPG?

The Witcher 4 is CD PROJEKT RED’s largest active project, with 519 developers assigned to the RPG as of July 31, 2026. The game is currently targeting a 2028 release window. (Image credit: CD PROJEKT RED) (Credit: CD PROJEKT RED)

CD Projekt Red confirmed on September 2 that 519 developers were assigned to The Witcher 4 as of July 31, up from 513 in April. That's by far the studio's largest active project — for comparison, Cyberpunk 2 has 184 developers, Sirius has 84, and the new IP Hadar has 33. (Shacknews)

That 519 figure isn't the whole picture, though. CDPR separately lists 196 employees under Shared Services — covering areas like localization, central QA, data/insights, and motion capture that support multiple projects at once, not necessarily all dedicated to The Witcher 4. (Shacknews) Still, it's a reminder that the real production footprint touching the game likely extends beyond the headline number.
