The 'winter wonderland' set near Loch Ness featuring events for children with disabilities

A Loch Ness visitor centre has been "transformed into a winter wonderland" with a range of activities set to take place across December.

An Talla at Dochgarroch Lock will be hosting an array of festive events throughout the month, including ones exclusively for children with disabilities or sensory impairments.

Among the activities are a Santa's grotto, a visit from Cairngorm Reindeer, and a Festive Makers Market and Festive Fling Food Fest.

More than 1,000 people have already visited An Talla so far this month to soak up the Christmas atmosphere. Last weekend, visitors were able to meet real-life reindeer and even snap a photo with the majestic animals.

Managing Director at An Talla and Loch Ness by Jacobite Freda Newton said: "We're going all out this Christmas. Having had to cancel or scale back Christmas events for the last couple of years, we hope our events will bring a bit of joy for everyone who visits.

"Not only have we welcomed Santa and his reindeer, but we'll have over 40 local crafters and producers at our markets, plus food, pop-up bars and music from Highland Brass Band.

"I'm delighted that we can support local small businesses and provide fun days out for adults and children of all abilities."

Santa's Grotto sessions at 10am on Saturdays will be reserved exclusively for children with disabilities or sensory impairments. This will allow them to enjoy their visit based on their needs.

Sessions take place on the following dates:

  • Santa's Grotto: Selected days until December 23.
  • Festive Makers Market: December 9 until December 11, 10am-4pm.
  • Festive Fling Food Fest in association with North Hop: December 16 until December 18, 12 noon-8pm.

Additionally, those journeying to An Talla can visit its restaurant and shop, or enjoy an atmospheric winter cruise with Loch Ness by Jacobite, which will be sailing the famous loch throughout the festive period, with the exception of Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day.
