The wind gusts at the Ohio State-Northwestern game just stopped the ball from moving forward in mid-air

Listen, man. I know we’re used to the ball constantly being in the air when we’re watching college football.

Spread offenses are super fun and exciting. Teams play fast, they throw the ball deep and they get touchdowns. Even the interceptions are fun. This is part of what makes college football the wild, wild west of sports. It’s the fast, exciting unpredictability that comes with it all.

But let me be the first to tell you — absolutely no one needs to be throwing the ball in Saturday’s Ohio State vs. Northwestern game. The winds are absolutely insane.

There are 25-mile-per-hour winds in Evanston, Illinois today where Northwestern plays. Gusts are reportedly up to 40 miles-per-hour. That is “let’s run the ball 42 times today” weather if I’ve ever seen it.

What does that look like? Let’s take a look. Ohio State kicker Noah Ruggles practiced kicking into the wind. Here’s what that looked like.

Y’ALL. THE BALL STOPPED IN MID-AIR.

The wind is really out there playing defense today. Pound the under. Take the rushing total. Stay away from throwing the ball. And kicking it, too, honestly. It just ain’t going to happen today.

Fans were absolutely shocked by this.

Triple option time, indeed.
