Married At First Sight (MAFS) 2026 may have introduced viewers to four new participants in Tuesday night’s episode, but it was an unexpected breakout star who managed to steal the show.
During groom Scott McCristal’s intro package, where he was shown speeding down the street in his red Lamborghini, the camera panned to show a grandmother walking her dog on the nearby grass. The unnamed woman looked furious as she flipped the bird at Scott, and an internet icon was immediately born.
“That woman pointing the rude finger on MAFS is so relatable,” one person posted on X (formerly Twitter), while another commented, “The dog walker had me laughing, perfect timing.”
Some social media users were more sceptical, however, and questioned if the moment was scripted and the woman was a paid actress.
The truth about the MAFS grandma
Well, according to Daily Mail, the scene was absolutely staged for the cameras. A source told the publication that the woman was walking past the camera crew while they were filming Scott, and producers asked her to be a part of the episode.
She was allegedly paid just $50 for her brief cameo and also had to sign an NDA to appear on the show.
Scott confirms they ‘hugged it out’
Scott confirmed the rumours to PEDESTRIAN.TV following the episode and insisted that the woman was “just having a laugh”.
“It’s all a laugh at the end of the day,” he said. “I pulled over, and we ended up saying, ‘How are you going?’. She was asking what I was doing, I got a hug, and we got a photo together.”
He revealed that the woman is a veteran and her hilarious on-camera act was very much a “harmless finger”.
“It wasn’t her actually being mad. It was just a funny finger,” he added. “I can’t have someone be rude to me without saying why. We hugged it out. I don’t carry bad blood.”
As hilarious (and bizarre) as the moment was, it’s a great reminder not to believe everything you see on TV. Keep your eyes peeled for future editing fails, questionable characters and strange moments throughout the season, because if previous years are anything to go by, it’s only going to get more wild from here.
