The Wigan village that's bagged nearly £8m

Hundreds of neighbours living in a Wigan village are set to wake up thousands of pounds richer later this week. Several streets in Lowton will share almost £8 million from the People's Postcode Lottery, it has been announced.

Winners living in the WA3 1 postcode sector will each scoop at least £5,000. The full winning postcode will be revealed on Saturday (April 30) and those living on that street will win an even larger slice of the prize fund.

Golden envelopes will be handed out at an exclusive, invite-only event, letting players know exactly how much they have won.

People’s Postcode Lottery ambassador Judie McCourt said: “I am buzzing with excitement for our Lowton winners and can’t wait to bring them this incredible news. I’m sure they’ll be excited for Saturday, and I think this surprise will make their weekend!”

The lottery costs £10 a month to play and was created to raise funds for charities. Since it was started, players have now raised more than £900 million for thousands of good causes.

This draw was held on behalf of Postcode Children Trust, which funds charities dedicated to inspiring and supporting children and young people, including NSPCC, Whizz-Kidz, Magic Breakfast and Young Lives vs Cancer.
