This May, council elections will be held in Wales.
Between them, Wales' 22 councils have 1,254 councillors who make decisions about schools, roads, libraries, swimming pools and more. However, just 28% of councillors are women, compared to 36% of local authority councillors in England, 29% in Scotland and 26% of councillors in Northern Ireland.
They have to provide statutory duties, like social care, environmental health inspection and planning and the things we all rely on like bin collection, roads, leisure services, and housing.
