The welcome selection dilemma facing Eddie Howe ahead of double road trip to Southampton and Chelsea

The general consensus over the weekend seemed to be that Newcastle United played poorly and won against Brighton at St James' Park. And while part of that is probably right, the reality is that Eddie Howe's Magpies earned the right to do so after storming into an early 2-0 lead after just 15 minutes.

True, Brighton dominated possession and had more goal attempts but Newcastle also missed opportunities too and Jacob Murphy or Dan Burn could have put this one to bed before half-time. The fact Brighton pulled one back and made life difficult for United won't and shouldn't be dwelled upon too much.

The history books will display a 2-1 win and as far how unlucky the Seagulls were, well even that will be forgotten about sooner rather than later on the South Coast. Given Brighton have already lost Dan Ashworth, Dan Burn and potentially Academy manager John Morling to Newcastle this was just another blow for the Amex Stadium side and they have bigger things to worry about.
