The Weeknd recently teased some new music for the highly anticipated Avatar sequel.
The cryptic social media post on Twitter included a mysterious 12-second teaser clip that has a blue “A” with a bird in the centre.
He shared the never-before-heard tune with the caption “12.16.22”, meaning we can expect the song to be released on December 16, the same day as the sequel’s release.
Shortly after that tweet, he retweeted the official Avatar account’s post that had the caption: “#AvatarTheWayOfWater x @theWeeknd,” confirming the collaboration.
Avatar: The Way of Water is about to be released a decade after the original Avatar, which hit cinemas back in 2009 and became the highest-grossing film of all time.
The plot is set to see Jake Sully living with his newfound family on the planet of Pandora before a once-familiar threat returns.
Jake, Neytiri and the army of Na’vi will have to join forces to protect their beloved planet and communities.

The first movie had seen mid-22nd century humans colonising Pandora to obtain a valuable mineral called unobtanium.
As their colonising mines expanded and threatened the existence of the local Na’vi tribes, a team of human scientists used Na’vi-human hybrids called Avatars to study and build bonds with the local people.
Before long, the Avatars were stuck between helping their race destroy Pandora for their gain and standing with the local tribes in their fight to survive and protect life as they knew it.
The sequel, just like the original, was written, directed and produced by James Cameron.
It features Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Kate Winslet, and Sigourney Weaver.
Its budget is estimated to be somewhere between £292 million and £334 million, making it one of the most expensive movies of all time.
The sequels after Avatar 2 will be released in 2024, 2026, and 2028, with the latter two depending on the commercial success of The Way of Water.
