
Dec. 1: Fed ends quantitative tightening
The U.S. Federal Reserve will stop reducing the size of its balance sheet on Dec. 1, ending a process that began in 2022. During this period, the central bank cut its holdings of Treasury securities and mortgage-backed securities by more than $2 trillion, bringing total assets below $6.6 trillion — the lowest level since 2020.
Dec. 1: OPEC+ hikes output
The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and its allies, known as OPEC+, will begin a modest increase in crude oil production in December. Eight member countries, including Saudi Arabia, will raise daily output by 137,000 barrels, in line with the gradual pace agreed upon in October and November.
Dec. 1-2: China-Russia security talks
China’s top diplomat Wang Yi will travel to Russia for the 20th round of strategic security consultations. Wang is visiting at the invitation of Sergei Shoigu, secretary of the Russian Federation Security Council.
Dec. 1: Meituan launches in Brazil
Keeta, the international food delivery brand of Meituan, will officially launch operations in São Paulo. The company plans to invest 1 billion reais ($180 million) to build local technology and service infrastructure, following pilot programs launched in Santos and São Vicente in October.
Dec. 1: U.S. assumes G20 presidency
The U.S. will take over the rotating presidency of the Group of 20 on Dec. 1, serving through Nov. 30, 2026. President Donald Trump intends to host the 2026 G20 summit at his private golf resort in Miami, focusing on growth through deregulation, energy abundance and innovation.
Dec. 1: Hainan implements new tourism rules
The Hainan Free Trade Port Tourism Regulations will take effect, establishing a legal framework to support the island’s development as an international tourism consumption center. The rules introduce high-standard opening-up policies for the sector.
Dec. 3 - 5: Macron visits China
French President Emmanuel Macron will pay a state visit to China, traveling to Beijing and Chengdu for meetings with President Xi Jinping. It will be Macron’s first visit to China since April 2023. Xi previously visited France in May 2024.
Dec. 4 - 5: Putin visits India
Russian President Vladimir Putin is scheduled to visit India for the Russia-India Summit. The trip aims to further strengthen the strategic partnership following Putin’s meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in September.
Dec. 7: Hong Kong legislative election
Voting will take place for Hong Kong’s eighth Legislative Council. The election will determine 90 seats across three categories: the Election Committee, functional constituencies, and geographical direct elections.
