Aug. 31 to Sept. 1: G-20 finance ministers and central bank governors meet

The gathering in Asheville, North Carolina, will be the first of several key ministerial meetings this year, setting the stage for the G-20 leaders’ summit hosted by U.S. President Donald Trump in Florida in December.

Aug. 31: MSCI index review takes effect

The MSCI August 2026 index adjustments will take effect after the market close, adding 33 stocks, including Zhipu AI, to the MSCI China Index while removing 32 others. The newly added A-shares are heavily concentrated in the semiconductor and electronics sectors.

Sept. 1: Shein debuts in Hong Kong

Global online fashion platform Shein will debut on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. Assuming the maximum offer price of HK$49.5 ($6.3), the company’s valuation would be nearly HK$210 billion, dropping more than 70% from its peak valuation of about $98.2 billion during its Series D funding round in 2022.

Sept. 1: U.K. lowers audit requirements for Chinese listings

To attract more Chinese companies to raise capital in London, the U.K. will temporarily ease audit requirements for certain Chinese firms listing in the country. The temporary rules will apply to eligible audit reports signed from Sept. 1, 2026, to Sept. 1, 2028.

Sept. 1: Baidu’s dual primary listing takes effect

The voluntary conversion of Baidu Inc.’s secondary listing status to a primary one on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange will take effect. The move makes it the first company with a full-stack AI layout to have a dual primary listing on both Nasdaq and the Hong Kong bourse.

Sept. 1: Apple CEO transition

John Ternus, Apple Inc.’s senior vice president of hardware engineering, will take over as chief executive officer, succeeding Tim Cook. Cook will transition to executive chairman of the board to participate in major strategic decisions and global policy affairs.

Sept. 1: Qualcomm raises product prices

The global mobile chip leader will increase its product prices by an expected double-digit percentage to cope with rising supply chain costs.

Sept. 1: Battery consumption tax exemption ends

China will resume levying a consumption tax on products including lithium primary batteries and lithium-ion batteries in phases. The move marks the end of a tax exemption policy that has been in place for more than 11 years.

Sept. 1: SCO summit begins in Bishkek

The 2026 Shanghai Cooperation Organization Council of Heads of State meeting will take place in Kyrgyzstan, marking the organization’s 25th anniversary.

Sept. 1: Private equity fund disclosure rules take effect

The Asset Management Association of China’s new rules notably require look-through disclosure for entities investing more than 90% of their assets in a single private equity fund.

Sept. 1: Micro-drama management measures take effect

The new rules define micro-dramas as single episodes under 20 minutes with a continuous storyline and implement a classified filing and distribution licensing system based on investment amounts and themes.

Sept. 2: Huawei holds global launch event

Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. will host an event in Munich, Germany, that is expected to focus on new smartwatches, serving as a key window for the company to showcase its flagship products to the global market in the second half of the year.

Sept. 3: U.S. tariffs on imported drones take effect

The U.S. will begin levying new tariffs of 25% or 100%, depending on weight and function, on foreign-made drones and their components to boost domestic production and address national security risks.

Sept. 3: Tesla unveils Cybercab

Tesla Inc. will unveil its first purpose-built robotaxi, designed for fully autonomous driving without a steering wheel or brake pedals, at an event in Austin, Texas.

Sept. 3 to 4: World Power Battery Conference held in Yibin

The 2026 event in Sichuan province will focus on international cooperation, technological leadership and diverse applications to build a global platform for the power battery industry.

Sept. 4: Hang Seng Index quarterly review takes effect

Changes to the constituents of the Hang Seng Index, Hang Seng China Enterprises Index, Hang Seng TECH Index and Hang Seng Composite Index will be implemented, taking effect on Sept. 7.

Sept. 6: OPEC+ discusses October production levels

Seven major oil-producing countries, including Saudi Arabia and Russia, will meet to determine October output, following an August decision to increase daily production by 188,000 barrels in September.
