Fans of The Wanted have been campaigning for their hit single Gold Forever to re-enter the charts following the tragic death of band member Tom Parker.
The father-of-two sadly lost his battle against cancer on Wednesday following a two year fight and was just 33-years-old when he died.
Tom, who married actress Kelsey Hardwick in 2018, was one fifth of chart topping band The Wanted alongside Max George, Siva Kaneswaran, Jay McGuiness and Nathan Sykes, and the group enjoyed two number one hits with All Time Low in 2010 and Glad You Came in 2011.
Now fans are campaigning to have the 2011 single Gold Forever – which was originally released in honour of Red Nose Day and reached number three in the charts at the time – to reach number one in honour of Tom.
The single has already rocketed back up the charts, reaching number two on the iTunes UK Top Songs list – while the music video has hit the top of online streaming charts.
Fans have been sharing their happiness at seeing the single returning to the spotlight with one tweeting: “I’m so happy to see Gold forever at number 1 for videos it’s so close to number 1 on iTunes Charts too. Let’s get it to number 1 for Tom.”
Another wrote: “How powerful and amazing is it that gold forever is charting again. Hopefully that shows them just how much they all mean to us.”
And a third fan, one of many others paying tribute to singer Tom, wrote: “I spent this morning singing my heart out listening to The Wanted on my way to work. It was cold but the sun was shining. Gold forever hits so differently now.”
On Wednesday, The Wanted released a statement to share the heartbreaking news that Tom had passed away.
They wrote: "Max, Jay, Siva, Nathan and the whole Wanted family are devastated by the tragic and premature loss of our bandmate Tom Parker, who passed away peacefully at lunchtime today surrounded by his family and his band mates.
"Tom was an amazing husband to Kelsey, and father to Aurelia and Bodhi. He was our brother, words can’t express the loss and sadness we feel.
"Always and forever in our hearts."
While Tom’s devastated wife originally broke the news, writing: “It is with the heaviest of hearts that we confirm Tom passed away peacefully earlier today with all of his family by his side.
“Our hearts are broken, Tom was the centre of our world and we can’t imagine life without his infectious smile and energetic presence.
“We are truly thankful for the outpouring of love and support and ask that we all unite to ensure Tom’s light continues to shine for his beautiful children.
“Thank you to everyone who has supported in his care throughout, he fought until the very end. I’m forever proud of you.”
Tom leaves behind Kelsey and their children, two-year-old daughter Aurelia and one-year-old son Bodhi.
