The village less than 15 miles from Greater Manchester named one of UK's poshest

A village less than 15 miles away from Manchester has been named one of the poshest in Britain.

The former home to David and Victoria Beckham, Nether Alderley has been listed among the Daily Telegraph's 54 poshest villages.

Nether Alderley's, near Alderley Edge in Cheshire, inclusion is based on the combination of highest house prices, best lifestyle amenities, connectivity and chocolate-box appeal, CheshireLive reports.

According to Savills Estate Agents, the firm which compiled the list, there's been a 60 percent rise in demand for rental homes in the most desirable countryside locations during the Covid pandemic.

Another 57 percent said that the demand was coming from those unable to buy where they wanted.

Savills said that many prospective buyers are choosing to rent in the high-end country markets while they wait for a property to become available in their preferred area so as to be chain-free.

The average house price in Nether Alderley is £1,268,175, with the Daily Telegraph listing three points that make it appealing to the posh, including its glamorous boutiques and bars, location with the Golden Triangle and it's popularity with sports stars.

A description of the village on the Daily Telegraph website reads: "Nether Alderley is the more subtle version of the achingly hip Alderley Edge.

"With the Grade I-listed St Mary’s church at its centre, it sits within what is known as the Cheshire Golden Triangle, the poshest bit of the Cheshire countryside, where plenty of high-profile, Manchester-based footballers choose to reside.

"The Beckhams once owned a house in Nether Alderley."

Other villages to make the list in nearby counties include Hightown in Merseyside, where the average house price is £299,304.

Hightown, which is just 10 miles from Liverpool, is popular with commuters, who can work in the city and retreat to the coast where there are sandy and shingle stretches, dunes and wetlands.

Meanwhile, Shenstone in in Staffordshire also made the list. The average house price in the village is £575,613.

The village is popular with commuters, with the village train station offering a direct rail link into Birmingham city centre and it is only a 10-minute drive from Lichfield Trent Valley station which has a direct train to London Euston in an hour and a half.
