The V&A’s Schiaparelli exhibition is a surrealist delight

One thing that hits you while walking around the V&A’s new Schiaparelli exhibition, Schiaparelli: Fashion Becomes Art, is that Daniel Roseberry is a very lucky designer. The current creative director of the Paris fashion house has a downright extraordinary archive to plunder.

So too did the art and fashion curators behind the exhibition, the first staged in the UK devoted to Maison Schiaparelli. They’ve spent two years building a show comprising 400 objects that span from the 1920s to the present day, including artworks by Picasso and Dalí as well as some of Elsa Schiaparelli’s most memorable creations, from the 1938 ‘Skeleton dress’ to the upside down shoe hat (both created in collaboration with Dalí).
