The USS Lincoln is en route back to San Diego after over 270 days at sea

  • The food shortages and other problems that sparked outrage over substandard conditions on the USS Abraham Lincoln stemmed from Iranian attacks that devastated a key Navy base on the island nation of Bahrain — leaving the ship to rely on supplies from an outpost about 2,200 miles away.
  • The situation led to supply shortages on the Lincoln , whose crew of about 5,000 sailors and Marines has set a post-Vietnam War record of more than 270 continuous days at sea since the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier left its home port of San Diego on November 21, 2025.
  • The USS Abraham Lincoln is now returning to San Diego after being relieved in the Middle East by the USS George Washington.
  • President Trump initiated the war against Iran in February and recently warned of an economic D-Day against Tehran as the conflict nears its sixth month.
  • The extensive damage to U.S. regional bases has prompted the Pentagon to consider reducing the American military presence in the Middle East after the conflict.
