The upcoming Lego x Fortnite crossover makes total sense and we should be excited

An unexpected Fortnite crossover was announced by Epic Games' Adam Sussman at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity last week.

The two most crossover-happy companies in the world are getting together, as Epic Games and Lego are set to team up on a new project which is set to bring real-life Lego creations to Fortnite via the power of Unreal Engine. At the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity (via HYPEX) Epic Games President Adam Sussman and Lego Marketing Officer Julia Goldin showed off a selection of Lego props created with Unreal.

According to Twitter user @iannzits (via @iFireMonkey) there was also word that the crossover will extend past Lego models being recreated in-game. Allegedly there were comments made that would suggest that Lego characters and minifigs could show up in the game as NPC's. Although it has also been floated that a Lego-themed LTM or creative map could be in the game instead, regardless some Lego characters could be in Fortnite down the line.

While no launch time has been officially confirmed, reportedly the Fortnite x Doctor Who event that was primed for November alongside the shows 60th anniversary has been pushed back in favour of a Lego crossover.

Brickle royale

Lego x Fornite never crossed my mind before, but now that I've heard it, it makes total sense. Both Lego and Fortnite have made names off of the back of interesting crossover content. Up until recently Lego's gaming content has been built on the back of other franchises, and while the company has branched out to original titles like Lego 2K Drive as of late it shows no signs of stopping.

One aspect that hasn't been brought up officially is just how in-depth the Lego set integration will be. Considering the huge library of series' Lego has worked with in the past (many of which are already in Fortnite) the idea of being able to do battle in giant versions of the best Lego sets sounds like a great idea. Plus, there's always a chance that Fortnite-themed Lego sets could be on the way in the future considering Lego has recently started doing more video game sets like the Super Mario collection and upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog sets. Maybe we could see Tilted Towers recreated in Lego one day.
